Wiseman Family book states William was born in 1815 on page 414 and he was born in 1813 on page 512. I will have to look at more research to find the exact year.

Died:
The Wiseman Family book actually states William died before 1870 on page 512 and by 2 Sep 1871 on page 414, it does not state that William died "on" that date.

William married McGregor, Elvira in 1840 in Warren County, Tennessee. Elvira (daughter of McGregor, Richmond and Mears, Mary) was born about 1820; died in Jul 1858 in Warren County, Tennessee; was buried in Smyrna Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. Hayes, Eleanor Nellie was born in 1838 in Warren County, Tennessee; died after 1860 in Warren County, Tennessee.
2. Hayes, Elmore C was born in 1840 in Warren County, Tennessee.
3. Hayes, Archibald Calhoun Sr was born on 1 Feb 1843 in Warren County, Tennessee; died on 18 Jan 1907 in Warren County, Tennessee; was buried in Smyrna Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.
4. Hayes, Mary was born on 15 Apr 1845 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee; died on 22 Apr 1912 in Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma; was buried in Pecan Cemetery, Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma.
5. Hayes, Jerome Benjamin was born on 31 Aug 1847 in Warren County, Tennessee; died on 4 Oct 1868 in Warren County, Tennessee; was buried in Smyrna Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.
6. Hayes, Luther was born in 1850 in Warren County, Tennessee; died in in Warren County, Tennessee; was buried in Smyrna Cemetery, Warren County, Tennessee.

Notes:

Although some online sources list Greenberry Hays as William's first child, this researcher has not been able to locate any proof for this information. I did locate a Greenberry Hays listed as the head of household in the 1830 Census in Warren County, Tennessee who was born between 1800 and 1810 and would be the same age as William's first children and there is a 9 year gap between the birth of William's first child to the birth of his second child. He has a wife on the census who would be the same age and a daughter under the age of 5 years old. It is possible this Greenberry Hays is William's son but he could also be a nephew.



The name of "William's first wife is unknown", as stated by the Wiseman book.

The name of "William's first wife is Lembia", as stated by The Hennessee Family book, however it is referenced by "Death Certificates - Warren and Van Buren Counties: 1914-1919", p. 120. She had her first child on 22 Sept 1802 and this death certificate would have made her at least 127 years old so I do not believe William's first wife is Lembia.

Many other family trees show William's first wife to be mary "Polly" Heard born 2 Oct 1780 in Henry County, Virginia, marrying William on 26 Oct 1801 in Green County, Georgia and dying in Warren County, Tennessee. This information makes a great deal of sense for the following reasons:
- There were Hayes family members born in Green County, Georgia.
-Mary "Polly" is a name used in the family for every generation to today.
-Their first child's birth lines up to be 9 months and 3 weeks after the marriage date.

This researcher has not done any further research to try to locate the name of William's first wife.

Buried:
William was buried at his home place near Irving College, Tennessee.
